According to trade reports, the film garnered Rs 64.3 crore in its opening week, with the Tamil version contributing Rs 35.63 crore. The Hindi version added Rs 13.35 crore, the Telugu version Rs 15.03 crore, while the Kannada and Malayalam versions earned Rs 15 lakh and Rs 14 lakh, respectively. Overall, Kanguva has made Rs 65.5 crore at the Indian box office so far.
Directed by Siva and co-written with Adhi Narayana, Kanguva is an ambitious epic fantasy action-adventure produced by Studio Green and UV Creations. The film boasts a star-studded cast including Suriya, Bobby Deol, Disha Patani, Natarajan Subramaniam, KS Ravikumar, and Yogi Babu. While the movie received mixed reviews, audiences have praised Suriya’s captivating performance and the film’s breathtaking visuals. However, critics have pointed out that the storytelling and pacing issues dampen its overall impact.
The narrative follows a dual timeline, intertwining the journey of an ancient tribal warrior with a modern-day cop’s investigation. Drawing inspiration from Tamil history and Indian mythology, the film attempts to blend past and present in a visually grand and culturally rich tale. While the concept intrigued fans, the execution has left many underwhelmed.
Suriya shines with a versatile and committed performance, but the lackluster screenplay and uneven pacing overshadow his efforts. Despite a few impressive action sequences and promising moments in the first half, the second half falters, losing the emotional weight necessary for a story of this magnitude.
